DESCRIPTION:
SALA serves 9 counties in Arizona and 11 Native American Tribal communities. The Staff Attorney for the Intake Unit, is based in Tucson and is responsible for the provision of legal services to low-income individuals through telephone and/or walk-in consultations. Duties will consist of: interviewing clients; giving legal advice and providing brief services; keeping current on the state of the law and procedures within SALA areas of practice; conducting legal research; preparing and drafting legal documents and pleadings; making recommendations regarding triage of applications; providing referrals to other resources as appropriate; participation in training activities; participation in the community legal education program of SALA; and performing any other legal related duties as requested or assigned by the Executive Director or his/her designee.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Applicants must be a member of the Arizona Bar; eligible for admission to the Arizona Bar, or pass the next bar exam. Applicants licensed 2 years in another jurisdiction may practice by special rule.
- Applicants must exhibit a high degree of sensitivity to the problems of the low-income community and should be able to work with low-income and community groups.
- Applicants should be knowledgeable in the area of general civil practice on behalf of the low-income community.
Bilingual Spanish\English helpful.
COMPENSATION:
Salary range: $58,656 - $101,915 DOE; Up to five percent additional compensation to individuals fluent in Spanish. Payment of bar exam and admission fees for those not yet admitted. Student loan repayment assistance. Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) eligibility. Excellent benefits package including health insurance, disability insurance, and pension plan.
