- Senior Litigation Attorney
Description
The Sacramento Office of La Follette, Johnson, DeHaas, Fesler & Ames, a dynamic 60+ year statewide civil litigation firm is searching for a Senior Litigation Associate Attorney with more than 10 years’ experience and at least 5 years’ trial experience, to work on cases in defense of doctors, hospitals and other healthcare providers.
Medical background or experience with administrative hearings or medical malpractice is preferred. The ideal candidate would be able to work independently as well as be a contributing member of our team. They would possess the knowledge and skills to be proactive vs. reactive. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are a must, as well as the ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and maintain a professional attitude and demeanor.
This position requires that you be very organized, possess the ability to prioritize duties and a strong attention to detail. Key Responsibilities:
- Represent clients in court hearings, trials, depositions, and other legal proceedings
- Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal documents.
- Develop case strategies and provide sound legal advice to clients.
- Negotiate settlements and communicate effectively with opposing counsel.
- Prepare and respond to discovery requests, including interrogatories and document production.
- Analyze complex legal issues and prepare legal opinions.
- Maintain and update case files, ensuring all documentation is accurate and current.
- Stay up to date with changes in laws and regulations relevant to litigation.
- Work collaboratively with other attorneys, paralegals, and legal staff.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
- Licensed and in good standing with the California State Bar Association
- A minimum of 10 years practicing law
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in litigation, preferably in medical malpractice
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle a high-volume caseload and manage time effectively.
- Strong negotiation and advocacy skills.
- Detail-oriented with a high level of professionalism and ethics.
- Proficiency in legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis) and case management software.
