Description
Meyer, Fluegge and Tenney, a firm located in Yakima, Washington, is actively recruiting a Senior Land Use Attorney to integrate into our firm. With twelve attorneys, we are one of the largest firms in Central Washington, and our lawyers have many years of trial experience handling a great variety of cases.
We are seeking a candidate to assume responsibility for an existing thriving land use practice with established relationships with clients and municipalities that is ready to transition. All applicants must have a Washington State bar license and a minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience, consisting primarily in land use, zoning and water rights law.
Essential Functions:
- Maintain an active and thriving caseload, giving excellent communication to clients and meeting critical deadlines
- Represent clients in appearances before various bodies, including hearing examiners, planning commissions, city and county councils, administrative hearing boards, and both superior and appellate courts.
- Engage in strategic communications with local government planners, department directors, and elected officials.
- Manage land use and water right applications, including, but not limited to, new applications, rezones, conditional use permits, assignments, site plan review applications, planned unit developments, and subdivisions.
- Research and analyze complex legal issues.
- Draft various documents such as briefing, motions, contracts, deeds, leases, and easements.
- Ensure accuracy and strong attention to detail in all work.
- Oversee the work of junior attorneys and legal assistants.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Exceptional legal writing and oral communication skills.
- Comprehensive understanding of legal concepts, specifically within land use / water rights law.
- Demonstrated ability to develop legal practice.
- Effective delegation and training skills.
- Capacity to collaborate within a team environment while also working autonomously.
Meyer, Fluegge & Tenney offers a competitive salary plus excellent benefits, including paid time off, paid holidays, medical insurance at no cost to the employee, and a profit-sharing retirement plan which is employer funded 10% of the employee's salary. Base compensation for this position is $130,000-$180,000 per year, depending on experience. Additional discretionary year end bonus will be added based on hours and performance.
