Mission Statement
Thomas Legal Counselors (TLC) is a small law firm that represents survivors of sexual violence, gender-based violence, harassment and discrimination in civil court. We represent individuals that have suffered violence while incarcerated or detained. TLC represents those who were assaulted and abused because of institutional negligence. We believe that freedom from all forms of abuse and violence is a basic human right. Survivors have a right to be compensated for the injuries that they have suffered as the result of another’s negligence, acts, and/or omissions that caused their harms.
TLC is a Client-centered Firm:
TLC litigates in an area of law involving child sexual assault and adult sexual assault claims. The Applicant will be exposed to traumatized clients and working with highly sensitive and difficult subject matters. The applicant will be expected to attend trauma-informed trainings. Applicant with a passion for advocating for survivors is strongly encouraged to apply.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Associate Attorney- Full Time:
TLC is seeking an associate attorney admitted to practice law in the State of New York. Applicant must have at least 1 – 2 years of experience litigating in New York State civil courts, including but not limited to the following:
1) attending court preliminary, status, and compliance conferences,
2) conducting and defending depositions,
3) preparing discovery demands and responses,
4) drafting substantive motion papers and appeal briefs

Location:
Hybrid. Applicant will be required to come to the office at a minimum of one day per week. The Applicant will be expected to travel for in person court appearances across New York State.
Benefits:
Salary range between $85,000 and $100,000 based on experience
Yearly Discretionary Merit Based Bonus

Responsibilities Include:
Represent clients from intake to final disposition
Prepare and draft discovery demands and responses
Advise clients on legal issues
Prepare and draft motion papers, appellate briefs and mediation memorandums
Prepare and conduct oral arguments
Negotiate settlements for legal disputes
Comply with all legal standards and regulations
Requirements
Must be admitted to the New York State Bar. Admission into U.S. District Courts, New York is strongly preferred.
